For the BGEO team, the last two weeks in Brazil have been an unforgettable experience – full of knowledge sharing, innovation, strategic meetings, and inspiring conversations with professionals committed to improving water management.
Our journey began in Rio de Janeiro, where we participated in WaterLoss 2026, one of the most important international events dedicated to water loss management, smart water networks, and operational efficiency in the water sector.
Organized by the International Water Association (IWA) and ABES (Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental), the congress brought together utilities, technology providers, researchers, and industry experts from around the world to discuss the future of water management and the challenges facing the sector.
WaterLoss 2026: A Great Experience in Rio de Janeiro
Throughout the event, the BGEO team had the opportunity to connect with professionals and organizations from across the global water community, sharing experiences, ideas, and innovative approaches to tackling Non-Revenue Water (NRW) challenges.
We were proud to participate in the technical program with the presentation by Xavier Torret:
“Advanced Zoning and DMA Design with GISWATER 4: Open-Source Innovation in Water Network Planning”
The session generated strong interest around the role of open-source technologies in the design and management of water distribution networks, highlighting the capabilities of GISWATER 4 for advanced zoning and DMA planning.
At the same time, it was a pleasure to share the exhibition space and this experience with our partners at CPS Engenharia and with Luiz Pladevall, whose presentation:
“Open-Source Approach for Water Loss Reduction and Operational Management of Water Supply Systems through GIS Integrated with Hydraulic Modeling”
provided valuable insights into how open-source ecosystems are helping utilities improve operational management and water loss reduction strategies.
One of the highlights of the congress was also seeing Giswater featured and referenced in several presentations throughout the event, including contributions from Alexandre and the SANEAGO team. It was extremely rewarding to witness the growing visibility and adoption of open-source solutions within the sector.
Beyond the technical sessions, the event was also about people, collaboration, and community.
We would especially like to thank the entire SANEAGO team for their companionship and positive energy throughout the congress – both during the sessions and outside the conference environment.
It was also a pleasure to reconnect with professionals from the Agência das Bacias dos Rios Piracicaba, Capivari e Jundiaí (PCJ), whose enthusiasm and commitment to innovation made for truly inspiring conversations.
And of course, a sincere thank you to everyone who visited our stand, showed interest in our projects, explored our solutions and services, and shared ideas with our team during the event.
Introducing BGEO360
WaterLoss 2026 also marked an important milestone for BGEO, as it was the first public introduction of our new platform, BGEO360.
The event provided a fantastic opportunity to present the platform to utilities, partners, and professionals from across the sector, opening many valuable discussions about digital transformation, operational intelligence, and the future of integrated water management solutions.
From Rio to Salvador da Bahia: Meeting with EMBASA
After the congress, our journey in Brazil continued in Salvador da Bahia, where we had the opportunity to meet with the management and technical teams from EMBASA, together with our partners from CPS Engenharia.
EMBASA (Empresa Baiana de Águas e Saneamento) is the state-owned water and sanitation company responsible for water supply and wastewater services across most of the state of Bahia, serving millions of people and playing a key role in the region’s development and quality of life.
The meetings brought together professionals from operational, NRW, and IT departments, creating a highly valuable environment for discussing both the current challenges and future opportunities facing the utility.
During the sessions, we had the opportunity to present in greater depth the potential of Giswater and its entire technological ecosystem to support the development of a robust technical-operational asset management system fully integrated with hydraulic modeling.
We also highlighted that EMBASA already has a Giswater pilot implementation in operation, with very positive results so far, and that technical teams have already received training, allowing the company to confidently move toward a broader implementation strategy.
These meetings allowed us to continue strengthening collaboration and exploring new ways to evolve and improve the implementations already in place. The exchange of ideas and experiences was extremely productive and reinforced the shared commitment to innovation, operational improvement, and digital transformation in the water sector.
It was a pleasure to be in Salvador and share these discussions in person. We would like to sincerely thank the EMBASA team for their warm welcome, hospitality, and openness throughout the visit.
Final Stop: Goiânia and SANEAGO
The final stage of our trip took us to Goiânia, where we once again met with the SANEAGO team, together with our partners from CPS Engenharia.
The meeting was organized and led by Mariana Marques, responsible for the geoprocessing area at SANEAGO, and brought together professionals from several departments across the company.
During the session, Mariana presented to the wider organization the work being carried out with the implementation of Giswater at SANEAGO and the progress achieved so far. From the BGEO side, we presented the latest improvements included in the new version of Giswater, together with the platform’s potential for further evolution and expansion within the company.
The presentations also included contributions from Luiz Pladevall and Xavier Torret, creating a highly collaborative and technically enriching exchange.
The meeting was extremely productive, with valuable participation and feedback from SANEAGO’s teams, clearly demonstrating the company’s commitment to innovation and digital transformation in the sanitation sector.
One of the highlights of the visit was also the opportunity to meet with Ricardo José Soavinski, President of SANEAGO. We are very grateful for the warm reception and the time dedicated to our team.
We would also like to especially thank Mariana Marques for the opportunity and leadership in organizing this meeting, as well as Maura for the hospitality and support during our stay.
Our gratitude also goes to Alexandre, Diego, Mariana, and Pablo for their long-term vision and trust in the implementation of Giswater within the company years ago.

These sessions in Goiânia were especially valuable for reviewing ongoing implementations, discussing future developments, and identifying new opportunities to continue evolving the solutions already deployed.
The technical level, openness to innovation, and collaborative spirit shown during these meetings once again confirmed the enormous potential of open-source technologies in modern water utility management.

These two weeks in Brazil have been intense, productive, and deeply inspiring for the BGEO team.
From the incredible atmosphere at WaterLoss 2026 to the valuable meetings with utilities and partners across the country, this trip reinforced our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and the development of open-source solutions for smarter and more sustainable water management.
We would like to thank everyone who was part of this experience – colleagues, partners, clients, friends, and all the professionals who shared their time, ideas, and enthusiasm with us.
We return home with new ideas, stronger relationships, and great motivation for the challenges ahead. On our way back, we also had the opportunity to briefly visit Brasília, adding one more memorable stop to these intense and rewarding two weeks across Brazil.
