BGEO is one of the 11 companies selected to participate in the IMAQUA project. It is a project financed with European funds from the ERDF programme which aims to improve the integral management of water quality and quantity in the supply and distribution processes. IMAQUA has a budget of 1.7 million euros and should be completed by the beginning of 2021.

The detailed objective of the project is to develop monitoring and supervision tools that allow an integrated management of water, from the collection to the point of consumption, ensuring its quality and minimizing losses during distribution. In other words, aims to significantly reduce the time needed to detect any contaminating agent and to provide a response that minimizes the risk to public health. In order to obtain these results, a consortium has been created made up of the university, research centres and specialized companies in the sector, such as BGEO. The works are coordinated by Eurecat, the main technological partner of the companies working in Catalonia.

BGEO, thanks to its experience and knowledge of technologies such as Giswater, will play an important role in the development of monitoring and decision support systems related to water quality. IMAQUA is one of the six strategic R&D&I lines on which the Comunitat Aigua RIS3CAT will work in the coming years. The project is financed 34.6% by the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF).

The water sector in Catalonia brings together 402 companies with a turnover of 4,480 million euros, representing 2.2% of the country’s GDP.
